Break free from traditional cooking tools
One of the most depressing things about learning to cook is that moment when you want to cook something, you have all the ingredients, but you don’t have a tool you need. (Anne taunted me this very week with “the most delicious cake recipe!” that requires a stand mixer. Thanks, Annie.)
Or, you can get creative.
I needed some bread crumbs to make some meatballs. I had some stale bread. Like, rock-hard, could not be ripped up to put in the food processor stale. So I picked up a hammer and started swinging. It worked out pretty well.
You can tell I’m not a baker, because my permanent rolling pin is a wine bottle. Pre-mixer, I would cream my sugar for cookies with a potato masher. (I know, who has a potato masher but not a hand mixer, right?)
What’s your favorite unorthodox cooking tool?
