Summer Salatim at Zahav
In this summer of burgers, sometimes you’re looking for the exact opposite. On those days, get yourself to Zahav for their salatim and hummus. The room-temperature, all-veggie options are just what you want on a summer night, without spending the day at the farmer’s market, and your evening chopping and prepping.
There are 8 choices in the salatim, so there’s plenty to sample of the summer bounty. My number one pick was the pickled asparagus, followed by (shock!) the beets. The tabbouleh, which I have always compared unfavorably to eating grass, was also a pleasantly zesty surprise, bright and lemony and fresh.
Go. Sit at the bar. It’s a lovely light dinner, and not too expensive, either ($20 for the small.) Go on Wednesday, and you can even hit up cheapie night ($6.50/ticket, can’t beat it) at the Ritz afterwards!
