Do you like Restaurant Week?

I didn’t really mean to take part in University City Dining Days.  In fact, I try to avoid such things as a matter of course.  But Nick and Mariah are moving to New Hampshire at the end of the week, and they got engaged last week, and they had never been to Distrito, so we made plans to go, and when it was dining days, well, that was not about to stop us.

Typically, a Restaurant Week menu is an appetizer, an entree and dessert, for $30.  At Distrito, DIning Days was 2 dishes from the first section, 2 dishes from the second section, and dessert, for $30 (plus tax, drinks and gratuity.)

Now, here are the problems:

  • I would basically never order an appetizer, an entree and dessert.  I just don’t have that much of an appetite.  The last time bda and I ate at Distrito, we got 6 items, and were too stuffed for dessert.
  • I don’t generally find most restaurants’ desserts that great.  Certainly not great enough to justify a separate dessert for every diner.
  • Two words: limited menu.  Boo.  Boo.

And yet, Center City District runs Restaurant Week twice a year, and just extended the next one to be two weeks.  So, there have got to be some fans out there.  Do you like Restaurant Weeks?
